The 2008 YMCA Pain Clinic Push/Pull was a huge success. The USPF is making great ground in NY with lifters that are second to none. The day started at the bench press with the three children listed at the bottom of the results. My daughter Tabitha tied her PR with a 5 lb bench press and just missed 9 lbs. Next lifter was Simeon Kenney, my son. Simeon hit 9 lbs and missed 14 lbs twice with some technical difficulties. Yes I am a proud father of two powerlifting kids! To finish off the children’s area was Austin Schaeffer. Austin is very strong for his age. I have seen him bench 45 lbs for 10 reps in my gym at 6 yrs old! Look out for him! Austin hit 34 and 44 lbs and took 49 lbs for a ride and just missed. Moving on to the women’s division we had three female lifters. First was Vikki Styliades at age 17 in her first meet. She did great as she hit a 75 lbs bench and 85 lbs and gave 100 lbs a try and just missed. Next female lifter was Paget Becht. Paget is a long time USPF lifter and did great. She benched 145, 160 and attempted 170. Paget had great control of the weight and will hit over 170 next time for sure. Steve Lewis benched 140 and gave a valiant effort at two attempts with 150 but did not get the white lights. Steve did a great job as this was his first meet. Dennis Brochey came out to lift even after traveling to give away his daughter in marriage - congratulations Dennis! Dennis hit 245,265 and 275. Starting off the 165 class was Pittsford Nautilus and training center’s own  James Schuler at age 15. James hit 135, 150 and almost had 160 - great job and this was his first meet of many more to come. Very impressive. Next in the 165 class was Mike Kurpiewski. Mike benched 275, 300 and 310. Great numbers. The final lifter on the results at the 165 was Dominic Bonvissute. Dominic was in incredible shape and it showed. Dominic’s lifts were 175, 185 and so close on the third attempt at 190. Moving along to the 181 class we see Mike Lettiere in the Junior class at 20 yrs old. Mike attempted 315 on all three attempts and came very close to hitting it. Eric Freischlag rounded off the 181 class with his first meet and some great lifts. Eric benched 255 and 265 and took 275 for a ride but didn’t get the lift. The 198 class had several competitors. The first 198'r was Dave Bellanca. Dave opened up with an impressive 405 and nearly had 435 and 445 at the 2nd and 3rd attempts. Great bench - opened at over 2x BW! Next in the 198's was Keith Vinci. Keith came back from an injury at the November meet to impress everyone. Keith hit his opener at 345 and narrowly missed his next attempts at 375 each. Looks like the injury is healed! Charlie Wuest lifted in the 198 class in 70-74 class. Charlie hit 225 and came close to 235 on two attempts. Charlie has had a huge part in making the USPF a success - thanks Charlie! The last lifter in the 198 was Guest Lifter Anthony Pera. At 198 Anthony man handled 555 on three attempts and just missed the lock out. Incredible weight at any weight class let alone 198! Moving to the 220 class. Joe Moore improved his lifts again. Joe keeps getting stronger at each meet by leaps and bounds. Joe smoked his opener at 350 and just missed his groove at attempt #2. Joe really demonstrated his improvements as he annihilated 375 on his third. Greg Goldin came in next with 315, 335 and 355. Greg has a lot more in the tank - good job. Andrew Schuler from Pittsford Nautilus hit 250 and 260 on his first two attempts and gave a great effort at 270.
John Dennis competed in his first meet and did great. John benched 200, 220 and almost had 230. John also won the 220 Deadlift only at 220 submaster. Scott Rowe put out an impressive group of lifts in the 220 class. Scott opened at 550 and hit 590 on his second then just missed 620! Impressive lifts! On to the 242 class was Tom Schmidt. Tom continues to put out big numbers and this was definitely big. Tom went 580, 600 and 625 in the 40-44 class 242! Great lifts! Pernell Jones went 365, missed 385 then came back to destroy 385 on his third at his first meet. Looking forward to his next meet to see what kind of numbers he puts up! The SHW class had one lifter in the bench. Maurice Harling went 350 missed 400 then owned 400 on his third. Maurice really gets the crowd going and is a great lifter to add to the excitement of any meet.
Now the DL results. Lynn Moore competed at her first meet. Lynn went three for three in the DL only with 165, 185 and 205. Lynn had a lot of power. She has a lot more left in the tank for sure! Great Job Lynn! Steve Lewis went 245, 260 and 300. 300 was an impressive DL to see! Dennis Brochey went 330, 350, 360 and just missed 370. James Schuler went 225, 245 and 265 in the 165. Mike Lettiere 400, 415 and 425 on the DL. Eric Freischlag 300, 330 and 360 in the deadlift. Dave Bellanca 475, 515 and almost had 540. Keith Vinci went 445, missed 480 and came back to get 480 for a huge pull. Joe Moore hit 500 the 520 and 535 for some great PR’s. Greg Goldin pulled an impressive 475, 520, 535. Drew Schuler hit 360, 375 and 395 all white lights. John Dennis deadlifted 380, 400, 425 to win the submaster DL only 220. Scott Rowe did a guest lift DL in the 220's to hit 615, 660 and 680! To top that he went for a 4th at 705 and almost locked it out! The 275 DL was Pernell Jones with an impressive 365, 495 and 550! More big numbers to come. Maurice Harling went 520 and gave 600 two attempts while getting the crowd going! Tom Delorimiere deadlifted 425 and 475 then lost his grip at an easy 525. Tim Zee put out some good numbers with a 500 pull and almost had that 520! Good lifts Tim! 14 NYS records were broken at this meet too! I need to thank my Lord for the safety of the lifter, my wife - she is incredible, the spotters - great job, Mark Becht and Paget Becht for their guidance and help, again Charlie Wuest, the lifters, Starvin Marvin’s Pizza and of course the YMCA and Derrick Killings for his help loading and unloading the equipment! Looking forward to more great lifts and great times at the next meet.
